Morgan Plus 8 review - design

Morgan Plus Eight 3.5 V8

Test date 15 July 1978  Price as tested £6,144

The Plus 8 has been the most outrageous survivor of the Morgan brood, since it uses the Rover 3.5-litre V8 engine to drive an old-fashioned ladder chassis based on a pair of cross-braced Z-section members, with most of the body framing carried out in ash, laminated or plain. The 3.5-litre V8 puts its 198lb ft of torque through a five-speed all-syncromesh Rover box. Thanks also to larger tyres and a higher final drive, top gear gives a relaxed 26.2mph per 1000rpm.Performance is strong: 0-60mph in 6.5sec and 100mph in 20.2sec.
