Bertone styling is a good start for the new GT. The company designed two of Alfa’s finest coupes: the ’50s Giulietta Sprint and ’60s Giulia Sprint GT.
The GT isn’t quite in the same league, but it is pretty, mating the best 147 cues with flared arches, a pert tail, high topsides and a tight-fitting roofline. Underneath sits the same 2596mm wheelbase and double wishbone front/MacPherson strut rear suspension as the 156, with a 1910cc MultiJet turbodiesel driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.
Extra boost and some turbo and intercooler fettling has raised the common-rail unit’s power by 10bhp to 148bhp at 4000rpm, and there’s 225lb ft of torque – more than the 3.2 V6 produces – at 2000rpm.
